Whole School Topics Overview and Reading Spine
We have a 2-year rolling programme of topics in each class, which ensures all Statutory National Curriculum subjects are covered across the school, progressively.
Each topic has a key text stimulus and a curriculum subject focus (usually history, geography or science based) and these are developed into topic web which shows how each subject is studied creatively, yet distinctively so children can make connections and build on previous subject knowledge. Topic webs can be found on Class Pages.
Curriculum Subjects
Every National Curriculum Subject has a Long Term Plan and Progression Document. These are developed into medium term and weekly plans by class teachers and they break down the vocabulary and substantive and disciplinary knowledge children will be assessed against, broken down into single year group expectations. For every session of learning, children have clearly defined learning outcomes (LO) and success criteria (SC) so progress against planning and progression documents can be measured, and planning can adapt to meet emerging needs.
Subjects are monitored by Subject Leads who create a Subject Offer and Action plan which is regularly monitored and reviewed, using a termly MET (Monitoring, evaluation and training) schedule which is developed by the SLT and in-line with SDP priorities.
